Valle California

Much has happened since last I posted. Despite some less than stellar weather we had a fantastic journey out to Valle California which is a mere 300 miles from Coyhaique but due to the condition of the road, takes about 10 hours to get to. Thats right...for all you Colorado folk, think of driving the road the last 2 miles to one of the 14ers....FOR EIGHT HOURS!!! But I must say it was worth it. This 7,000 acre piece of land that has valleys, forests, snow capped peaks, rivers and pampas was nothing short of spectacular...think of something straight out of the Lord of the Rings. Add to the fact that there were a total of about 20 people using it and you cant find a spot like that anywhere else on the globe. We were housed in this simple little staff house with the guides and other PatagoniaSur employees. Its was rustic for sure but made the experience all the more memorable. We had dinners with 5-8 people every night and drank beers by candle light when the generator went out for the night. We were able to go horseback riding, hiking, fly fishing, rafting and I was even lucky enough to score a last minute open seat on a helicopter ride which took us out to the Lago Palena National Reserve and back. Needless to say were spoiled rotten. We met some wonderful people out there and it will definitely remain in the highlights of this entire journey...
